this is not LH, #1: I'm a hot firefighter

How this started was that I just wanted a family to play. Since my neighborhoods usually get so bogged down that I never get to see anyone actually grow up. And my stories get so heavy that I hardly get to really play. So here, I wanted a world I could just play.

I started with Micah and Mariah. I was going to play them fast and silly, and let them actually grow up. But my story-progression never immigrated any Sims to fill up the town, so I ended up needing to move some families in. Rather than spend time creating new families, I just tossed in a few more familiar faces from my family bin. And then I threw in a couple more. I tossed them in and I paid no mind to what they did, what jobs they took, or who they made friends with. Before I knew it, I had this alternate dimension LH, and what they ended up doing was more crazy and fun than I could have expected! They went crazy! And they started interacting and causing the most ridiculous drama that I just *had* to share.

I'm not sure how much of these episodes will make sense for those who have not followed Lakeside Heights. It's funny to me because I know who these people were, and how much that both relates and clashes with what they're doing here. But who knows? It might be amusing still.

There are not many rules here. There is no concrete time like there is in my other stories. I'm mostly leaving SP on in the background, as this is sort of an experiment in play. For some of the families, I've marked them for no moving though, because they move so fast it kind of makes my head spin! Otherwise, they'll just live and age and breed, and I think some of their offspring might be able to make townies for my new hood.

Disclaimer: please note that none of this has anything to do with any real stories, blogged, published, or otherwise. This is all alternate-dimension kind of stuff.

Onto the shenanigans.

Approximate ages: Jack and Nessa are 35, Micah and Mariah are 34, Corbin is 32, Carly is 31, Leila and Matt are 28, Beau and Tyler are 24, Summer is 23.

Micah and Mariah seem to be my happiest couple so far. I'm always getting lovey-dovey notifications about them when I'm not playing them directly.

They've had a little boy, Ben, and they've got a third on the way. Quinn is growing up to be an adorable young lady, and she's actually nearly a teenager now! I can't even believe it. I was playing on my "short" lifespan for a bit, but I've now moved it to "normal" which is about the equivalent of one day = one season. Even in my play hood, I don't like them to grow up *that* fast!

I moved many of them in as singles, just to see who would pair up with whom. Summer and Tyler were quick to form a relationship, and also quick to have an oops preggy! Like, within minutes, lol! They had a shot-gun wedding soon after, all before I could even get back into the house - so no pictures there, unfortunately.

Beau and April tried out a quickie relationship, and just as quickly broke up. And now they're not even friends anymore. :(  They were actually together and then broken up before I could even get into their house! She does have commitment issues though. Not sure yet if they'll continue to date or be friends after this. Even in this alternate dimension, I'd be sad to see them not be friends.

But April is a bartender at a club on the shady side of town. She's happy though, living on her own in an apartment at the moment. I feel like she needs a roommate, so I might try to find her one. I actually don't even know where Beau is living at the moment. (They move so freaking fast if you don't have that locked down!) I do get notifications that he's working on his gardening skills though, wherever he is.

Summer and Tyler ended up having a baby girl, which I didn't make it back in time to name. SP named her Tonya, which was not a name I would have normally thought to pick, but okay, lol!

My apologies to any real life girls out there named Tonya, but it always reminds me of that ice skater that bludgeoned that other ice skater in the knee cap. And for the record, I grew up in a place where girls were named things like Tonya, where people drove tractors down the street instead of cars, and set things on fire for fun, and where people may or may not have had teeth. And the thing of it is, I can really, truly see Summer and Tyler ending up being parents to a little girl named Tonya, who would grow up a bruiser like her mom and angsty like her dad, who would push little boys down in the mud and steal their lunch money.

Sorry, Tonya. I'm sure you'll grow up to be a lovely and very classy young lady!

Corbin and Carly started dating rather quickly. Not because they liked each other much, but just because they were my only two single Sims at the time and SP threw them together. And it keeps throwing them together, even though I keep having her break up with him.

Keri and Justin live in the neighborhood too, and I always forget Keri is a firefighter because she was so busy with babies for a while. Lily is nearly a teenager at this point, and she and Justin have a little boy now too, Elijah.

Leila Watts is a pretty kick-ass firefighter in this dimension (when she's not watching daytime soaps at the firehouse, that is), and she's super-cute doing it too! I forget what level she's at, but she's won quite a few awards for her firefighting skills.

I actually have Corbin living with Matt and Leila at the moment, for simplicity's sake. Which sounds like it would be disaster, except that Leila really takes no interest in Matt and vice versa. Matt and Leila have no children in this dimension, and I wouldn't have even had them married at all except for the fact that I made them that way back when I created them. In fact, Matt doesn't seem to care in the least that Corbin and Leila flirt right in front of him. It's like he already knows I plan to break them up.

Smart guy.

Anyway, Corbin actually still has wonderful chemistry with Leila, and he goes to visit her at work some afternoons. He was in between jobs and had some time off, while she works quite a lot.

Leila is a hot firefighter. "I'm a firefighter," she declares to him, as if this alone should be impressive enough to charm the pants off of him.

(It's a flirt she can do! How funny is that?)

"I'm a firefighter," she says to Jack then. (Because Leila wants to flirt with EVERYBODY. Even if she has a husband at home and a lover in the same room with her, which Corbin doesn't seem too happy about - he came to visit her at work, after all!)

"Um, yeah," he says. "I'm a firefighter too, remember?"

And Jack is happily married, with a second baby on the way. He's not impressed.

But Corbin and Leila are good. Mostly. With their sketchy living arrangements, her husband in the next room, his on-and-off girlfriend living across the street. It's not like they're impervious to scandal or anything.

But it weighs on Corbin's conscience still. Not Leila's. Leila is thrilled by the naughtiness of it all. She's having the time of her life! Or else she's just having a hot, hot mess. Your call.

One thing for certain is that Matt is not interested in being a part of it. Matt gives her a quickie divorce in the bathroom (because, where else!?), and he's going to find someone a bit more stable.

Leila is like, "You're breaking up with me?!?"

"Yes," he says. "In this story, I certainly am."

Not a second thought about it.

Matt moves to a big house out in the vineyards  and he's going to be a nectar maker here. He has an enormous plot of land, and his freedom. We'll see how he's getting on in a bit, but I have a feeling this life is going to suit him just fine.

And by the time we get back to Carly, even though Corbin has been in bed with Leila all week, he and Carly are thinking about getting engaged! (For real, SP? Like seriously, what?!?) This isn't going to work, besides the fact that they don't even like each other, she's also got a little crush on the tattoo artist at her salon.

She likes her men inked, and you know, this one has dreamy eyes.

So she calls Corbin over to her workplace. (Because she can't be bothered to take a day off work for this nonsense.) Gonna have to put an end to this hard and fast! Sorry, Corbin. Breakups are never fun. But you know, remember Leila? So she breaks it to him. "Um, don't call me. Don't ask me out. Don't ask me to marry you anymore."

Corbin takes it to heart, and it doesn't feel good. It's not like they were soul mates or anything, but you know, they were gonna get married! Poor Corbin is just not having a very nice life so far in this world. Bad karma from a previous lifetime, he probably wonders.

*** to be continued... ***

It's sort of my mission in this world to let SP play out when I'm not directing them, apart from some silly things that just don't make sense. Like Corbin and Carly, lol! It's just an experiment to see what SP does, but by the end of the week (= about a year or so in Sim time), I also had to put Leila's romance on pause, because she was just too hot to handle and pretty much intent on tearing through everything male and that had a pulse (except for her husband). Girl needs to cool it down.

  1. So fun to see this alternate reality LH - that's a perfect way to describe it!

That's pretty exciting that Summer and Tyler paired off on their own (and got married and had a baby, not necessarily in that order!) I love that you're already imagining the worst for poor Tonya! BTW, there's an option somewhere in Story Progression so that the game will prompt you for a name when your sims have a baby. You can just click out of the box and let them have the game name if you want but it's nice to have an opportunity to change it.

It's kind of a bummer about Beau and April but not really surprising. I can't remember if you said what traits you gave them, but I imagine they've have those Commitment Issues, Flirty type traits, which don't seem to be good for long-lasting relationships with Story Progression!

I kind of love that all your firefighters are women! Those are my feminist leanings coming out to play, I guess.

'Leila is like, "You're breaking up with me?!?"

"Yes," he says. "In this story, I certainly am."'

I literally LOL'ed! I hope Matt can find someone else now!

This was fun! I can tell you're having fun playing too, which I'm so glad about. :)

  2. I *am* having fun! It's the first chance I've had to really play this game. When I got it, I was focused so much on creating Sims and building the world. So this is fun, and I still have 3 more EPs I haven't even installed yet! :D

April is definitely commitment issues, and flirty too, I think, which is two blows against her.

I will put together a little page listing the main families here and their traits. Just a quickie listing, since I'm playing this lightly enough that I'm not even paying much attention to anything beyond their traits.

Ha, I LOVE hardcore women firefighters! So I'm happy to have a couple of them in this world, since realistically, I shouldn't have any in my 1980's LH. (I'll have to fix that, because I do think I have one there.) But here, I have two female and two male. Jack is one of the firefighters too, and another guy from a background family.

    Thanks for reading! :)

  3. Hahahaha! SP makes the most HILARIOUS choices. I've done a world like that, let things go as they would, and laughed at the ridiculousness of it all. I am having so much fun reading about the Lakeside Heights folks doing wacky stuff. Corbin and Leila... oh man! LOL

I am so happy Summer and Tyler paired off on their own. It's just destiny with them. ;)

Oh man, anytime I have a lady without a job, SP tries to make them a firefighter. There are very few dudes, they are ALL ladies. LOL!

The bad karma line with Corbin made me laugh. I suppose it's the universe getting back at him for almost ruining a marriage in an alternate universe? Oh man, Matt dumping Leila without a second thought! He is NOT having any of that mess in this world!

What is it with your sims and the bathroom? LOL

  4. Mao, lol! Corbin and Leila... it gets a bit crazier in the next one! ;)

These guys are fun, but it's weird to see their lives turn out VERY different from the "canon" for some of them. Like Lily, for example, I've decided she doesn't even exist in the books, lol! But I think I'm going to make her one of the first to move to LCU in the real hood when she's old enough. If she doesn't exist in the books, she might as well get to grow up in real LH.

Yes, I have noticed SP does weird things with the careers! So many firefighters and business people! And then I have no police or politicians! What kind of town is this supposed to be? lol! So I do end up having to pick careers for some of them. But I'm not really playing with money much in this hood, so I don't mind if their jobs aren't realistically spread out.

In real LH though, I'm working on a chart of the residents ordered by profession, lol! I am *very* concerned with what jobs they have there! ;)

  5. This is all so great, LOL! The Sims 3 always gets so overwhleming with all of the background stories occurring. Out of curiosity, what settings do you keep your story progression on?

  6. Non-Anon, hi! :) I love seeing the background stories pop up, but it can get overwhelming when you're playing on a fast lifespan. I get a ton of them in Not-LH, but hardly ever see them at all in my main LH hood.

I use different settings for the two different hoods. Not-LH/Petaluma is left pretty much wide open, except that I set moving to false, because they move houses so flipping fast it makes my head spin, lol!

I will set false on a few of them individually if I think it makes sense - like my teenagers have romance turned off until they're about 15 or 16, because it's weird for me that SP will hook them up with a boyfriend the second they turn 12. Yikes! And if they find a job I particularly like for them, I'll lock that down too.

As for my LH hood, that's entirely different! I lock down pretty much everything in that hood.
    - no moving
    - no career progression (though we recently discovered this means kids don't do their homework and fail, so this needs to be set per Sim in a household with kids)
    - no skill progression
    - no getting married, engaged, or divorced (I do let most of them romance on their own still, for the chaos of it, lol! But because LH plays so slow, SP doesn't often jump in there.)
    - no SP babies, at all, ever!
    - I can't think of what else I'm missing, but it's probably locked down, lol!

I do have my own custom epic lifespan and aging turned on in that hood.

Basically, LH is my intricately-plotted hood and it goes exactly the way I want it to go. Not-LH/Petaluma is my play game, so I usually like to see what SP throws in there.
