TS3 Uni comes to Lakeside Heights
For the record, I am not supposed to have this yet, lol! But I was too brain-dead to write last night anyway, so I installed it!
In the real story, Nora is supposed to be about 25 in 1985 LH, but she's also supposed to be at the tail end of her Doctorate degree, so there's a lot of schooling she's missed. I don't have much of a history built up for her, and part of my reason for turning her into a Sim in the first place was that I wanted to get to know her better for Matt's novel, so I thought it would be fun to kind of "flash back" to her college years. (I'm far enough ahead in the real hood that I've got PLENTY of story material to keep me posting while I play with Nora at Uni.) So here's 18/19 year-old Nora, many years before she met Matt, just starting her first year of university in 1979.
She always looks a little terrified of something, lol!
And this guy knows it's 1979 too! The plaid shirt, the huge belt buckle, the mustache!!!
So many LOLs! It's giving me stories, people! (Too many stories, too little time.) I may post a little interlude (very little) about her on the blog, but I want to finish the prologue story set first, because you know how neurotic I am about my blogs and everything being in the right place and order, lol! But she's made a friend here already (not mustache guy) who will come back to LH with her, and considering she's fated to end up with Matt, I find their "connection" very interesting.
[ETA: I probably shouldn't tease with new stories when I have so many to finish as it is! It's not likely this one would end up "little" anyway. Which is not to say I won't tell it some day, but I don't know when I'll find the time. :\ ]
The dormie premades are HIDEOUS!!! Yikes. I've already made over a few of them. I don't like having premades in my hoods and mingling with my Sims, so I'll probably slowly work through all of them. I like them to be my own, you know?
But the town is BEAUTIFUL! The buildings are all just so pretty! Can we place them in our base hoods? I'm not sure if they would fit where I had LCU planned, but they're really very pretty buildings.
One thing I wanted to note was that I think 1 week at Uni is going to take me FOREVER to get through!!! I usually play with relativity turned way down (speed 1 or 5 usually, for those who use it). I've turned it up to half for Uni play (about speed 15 I think it was), or just under half speed, and that's still taking me forever. I can't imagine playing the days at default speed though. They go by so fast! :o
Anyway, the game is both really fun, and in some ways I can see how it's going to get really tedious too, because 7 days per term seems really long to me! I even thought the 3 days per term in TS2 was too long. But I'm glad I haven't run into any of the problems others seem to be having, though I guess those happen when you try to send them home, don't they?

LOL, Nora does look a little terrified there! But she's starting uni, so that seems natural! Anyway, if you ever post up a little interlude about about her time at uni, I'd be very interested to read it.
ReplyDeleteI think uni is a lot of fun too but I agree that the semesters are really long. I'm definitely not planning to make use of the option to send them for TWO weeks. Jesus Christ...one week is more than long enough.
You apparently can put the uni rabbitholes in the main hood. You won't get the option to go to class but the others are supposed to work.
And I am dying to do some dormie makeovers! They're some serious fug walking around Sims University. Speaking of which, I really hope there's a way to change that name. What a lame name!
Wait, so the sims' university is called... Sims University?! Sheesh, I thought I lacked imagination in naming things...
DeleteIt's so, SO long, lol! I was thinking I'd play my Uni kids once a semester (8 semesters in 4 years), for 6 credits each, but now I'm wondering if that'll feel like too much? They usually do give me enough drama to keep me busy, and maybe it would feel faster with more than one student? In Nora's second session, I'm going to try with a few more students. Her younger sister will have been old enough for uni. And I'm going to make a couple of her uni friends playable too, so that'll give me about 5-6 students to play. It might feel shorter with more Sims to keep track of.
DeleteOr otherwise, it'll feel longer because there will be less boring times to fast-forward through?
And LOL, I didn't even notice the name at all. In fact, I think I was probably just looking at the name of the EP, lol!
Some more idle thoughts on Uni... I wonder if I might combine the Uni hood with LCU at home too. The students could do one semester on the Uni campus, and then spend the second semester of each year on the LCU campus. At 12 credits per Uni semester, that would finish them in 4 years.
DeleteThe thing I've noticed is that with socializing and the rabbithole/classes, there's little time for actual skilling in the Uni world. So they could spend their second semester of each year at LCU skilling and not being locked down on campus for 7 days, lol!
Yes, I think I'm going to try that.
But I guess considering graduation will need to happen on the Uni campus, I should probably make the second semester the one they spend on campus, and the first at LCU. I'll report back with my findings once I've had some time to see this in action. :)
Blackcat, yes, it's seriously called Sims University! Even Sim State University from TS2 would have been preferable.
DeleteLaura, I'm looking forward to hearing your report, lol!
I'm in the middle of going through my CC, so I haven't been playing my regular world lately. Just messing around in some of the EA worlds. When I do though, I'm planning on the one semester at a time, 6 credits per semester, just so it works out to four years via the calendar I run on. So I'll let you know how I feel about that. I think seeing I'll be doing uni in between playing regular families, it might feel less tedious? And with my own sims, it will seem a little more fun. But we'll see.
I know what you mean about making over the townies, I do it in TS - its part of making my own mark on the hood! Also, really surprised that its 7 days per term, when it seemed like everyone was saying that 3 days were too long in TS2. But the pictures look great, and I'm really looking forward to your stories.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about making my mark. I've never been able to really care about the premades. I need them to be mine! :)
DeleteRight, what are they thinking with 7 days!?! I wonder how soon it'll be before someone makes a hack for it, lol! I remember I used to give my TS2 Sims 48 hours per semester.
