On story progression:"Rather Be Fishing"
Isn't there a t-shirt that says that or something? ;)
Well, after her initial bout of home-wrecking trouble (true and certified, Hank and Pauline are broken up, moved apart, and he's dating someone new now) Catherine's life has been quite boring. She goes to work, and works herself hard, and then she goes home. I have no restrictions on her story progression, but she isn't really doing much of anything interesting on her own so far. She likes to get her nails done (which I actually do have nail accessories I should put on her.) Maybe she's had enough drama for a couple of weeks.
I'm hoping she'll make some friends soon, or get promoted, or hell, even break up another relationship if she wants, lol! We'll see what comes of her in the long run. I'm quite looking forward to following the background stories of some of my semi-playable characters. I do plan on bringing over a lot of them, and I'd like to let them go and see what story progression makes of their lives.
I did let her do some fishing after work.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch... TS3-Tyler was hardly as boring on his own time. I actually do have all kinds of restrictions placed on my testing households, but I guess Tyler doesn't care. I even had him set up with a nice budding little romance with TS3-Summer already, but ah well. I guess test-Tyler wants to do a little more dating around than the real Tyler ever got to do.
And I tweeted a bit about this, but when I went into their house one day, Beau and Tyler were fighting with each other and I had no idea what went down between them. So I look forward to eventually getting the Generations memories to help solve the problem of not knowing what happens to them when you're not watching.
Another new family I made - the TS3 Buchanans! :)
I think Micah turned out a lot closer to his real self than Mariah has so far. She has a very hard face to do in TS3. It's SO long and narrow that even with my slider hacks I still don't think I'll be able to match her TS2 self exactly.
And the baby is a TS3 baby. (And no, her arm is not cut in half, lol! It's just tucked underneath.) But I can testify that she'll grow up into a lovely young lady though.
On the world:Fog over the water and a cloudy sky!!! It was so foggy I couldn't even see the lighthouse! :)
I was ridiculously amused by this, lol!
Though I'm finding I'm not too fond of pea soup grass. (Outside of the lots, btw.) And especially not fond of the way it shows up in that thin strip of land between the lots, so that you've got two lots with nicely painted grass on them and a strip of pea soup in between, and you can't even paint over it. (Or can you???)
I suppose it's probably too taxing on the system to paint the whole world full of detailed grass, huh? Though I do wonder if this is a problem with my crappy graphics card, or if the grass looks like this for everyone?
Anyway, I am quite in love with Riverview! This shot SO reminds me of what I'd like my Bluewater Township to look like. (Though I *still* haven't been able to get CAW to run on my computer, so, eh-)
From what I've been told, I might be able to edit from the Riverview template, and I think that would be a really good starting point for me, and might save me a bunch of time. It has the river I need, and the bay. If I could just add a few roads here and there, I'd be set! I'd have Lake City and the university on one side of the river, and LH and Bluewater on the other. And I'd edit that big empty space near the water to be more suburban for LH, and add the lakeshore. Perfect!
Or you know, perfect *if* I can ever manage to get CAW to install and run on my computer. But for now I'm just talking out my ass, of course. ;)
Random gratuitous sunrise shot...
Just an odd random clusterf@ck as the kiddies tried to go to school. I got popups all through the day that they were all late or missed school entirely because they had such a hard time getting through the door. No clue what that was about. I'll have to pay attention to see if it happens again though.
On the moon:The world I'll be modifying from for my Lunar Base is
Moon Base Delta by Rflong7. I may demolish and rebuild the parts I'll be using as story sets, since I have a very precise idea of what the complex and rooms should look like, but this will be nice to start with!
There's even a terrarium (though I quite liked the enclosed one I had, with the second layer... hmmm...)
Though I'm going to need to do something about the street-clothes on the people who show up around the place. I suppose I should have gotten the unpopulated version, then I could put all of my own people in it, in the proper attire. (Are there no-spawning hacks for TS3?)
What Tyler is wearing here was just what I managed to put together from my in-game clothes. I don't have much CC clothing downloaded yet, so this is likely not what he'll continue to wear. Funny enough, the creator of this world dressed her moon people in this same spacey vest, lol!
The town as a whole is not quite what I imagined my base to be (wish these were dirt roads, for example, rather than paved! There's no cement and road paint on the MOON, lol!) Though if I can't get CAW to work, it'll have to do.
And even if I do get CAW to work, I'm considering just working around on this anyway, since I would rather spent my time on my real hood, and just build up occasional story sets for my moon base as needed. For now, at least.
And it comes with a bar! :)
'No-spawning' hacks. Yes - it's called Master Controller, the general option and it's controlling immigration.
ReplyDeleteYes. The pea soup grass is about your graphics card. While we can't paint over the non-lot bits in buy/build mode, I do believe that in 'edit town' mode that there is a fair few things we can do which MAY include terrain paints. (Although that may be limited to CAW)
Micah and Mariah are looking gorgeous - and I recognised them before you said who they were.
This was fun to read, I love what you're doing so far.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kiri that the pea soup grass may be a graphics card problem. In any case, I'm afraid there's no way of editing the terrain paint outside of the lots short of going into CAW.
I also love the country feel to Riverview, and the layout. Charleston is built on the modified Riverview map although due to conflicting files, I had to uninstall the original Riverview in order to have Charleston :( In CAW you get a 'Lite' version of the Sunset Valley and Riverview maps which only contain terrain painting and roads.
I hope you can get CAW to work eventually, I'd love to see what you do with it!
If it eases Catherine's mind at all, Hank and Pauline always break up when I leave Story Progression on! Then they keep getting back together and then breaking up again. I think they're currently together and have popped out a kid but who knows how long that will last? ;) They are two Sims with commitment issues who start the game engaged - they're sort of engineered to be dramatic, lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I guess test-Tyler is taking advantage of his freedom while he can. He knows he will eventually have to bend to your will!
I don't have the pea soup grass, so I think that's your graphics card (or possibly your settings).Sometimes it looks like that on my computer while it's still rendering but if I wait a few seconds (sometimes longer, grumble grumble), it fills in with the right texture.
I saw someone else having that problem with the school. They were planning on adding a second school. I don't know how the kids decide which school to go to if you do that but it's apparently an option.
As Kiri said, MC will stop the game from spawning unnecessary Sims but I'm wondering if the moon base world you've got is actually a populated world? With families living in homes and stuff? In that case, you'd probably have to evict the families manually from the hood screen. In any case, you can use MC to send them to the stylist screen so you can fix up their clothing and hair.
Kiri, thanks, I'll try to find that in there (it's such a big hack, lol!)
ReplyDeleteAwww, good, I'm glad you recognized them right away! :)
Charleston, oh cool, I wondered if you might have used the Riverview map as a starting point, because that island looked familiar! :) So how much of it comes to start with? Do you get the trees too, or do you have to replace them all? How about the fences or decorations like the water tower or barn?
Carla, oh, can you add another school then?!? That's interesting. I think I made the problem worse because I was actually watching the school as they all walked up to the door and tried to get in. I think if I had left them alone, unrendered, they would have just gone about their business in the background as normal.
I did get the populated version of the moon base (why? lol!), but there's an unpopulated version too that I can grab.
Bah on my pea soup grass then! :( Not a super big deal, as I still hope I have a new computer by the time I get around to taking story pictures. But if I do end up having to take pics on this computer, I'll just avoid the grass, lol!
I did use it as a starting point, mainly because I find it very difficult to match the edges of the map to the distant terrain! I did make that island considerably bigger though, but it still has that basic Riverview shape. The only thing it starts off with is terrain painting and roads - there are no lots, trees or decorations. There are also Sim files hidden in the layers which may cause problems but there's a way to get rid of them!
ReplyDeleteAnd you might think I'm weird, but the picture of the roads in your moon base really reminded me of this: http://crazydiamonds.hdfree.com.br/Wish%20You%20Were%20Here.jpg
