I needed some school-aged children to test out my schools with, and so...
Here's Robbie and Fiona - doesn't she just look like she's up to no good already? lol! After I moved them in, she did nothing but fight with poor Robbie!
(Here's their family picture in TS2, for comparison.)
And an odd note - it's almost heartbreaking to play Robbie without Liza, and Connor without Felicity, lol!
(The rugs I'm using are here.)
So far so good!
So the boys got in their school bus, and because my school was closer than the default one, they go there first...
You need at least 2 spaces all around the rug - no exceptions! I had to edit and re-enter a bunch of times thinking I could cheat with a smaller space. No, 2 spaces all around, which means a 6x6 room.
So overall, I'm very happy to see that lots can be customized to be both functional rabbit holes, as well as usable lots for visiting and story sets.
The point of this being that I'll want to be able to have a functional school for gameplay, as well as a storytelling set school for my story. So the rabbithole is hidden inside my storytelling school, where I'll be able to use my classrooms, cafeteria, library and playground for story purposes, and still use it in gameplay as well.
I'll eventually do this with all my rabbit holes - for career lots, the hospital, the court house, or whatever.
Or even, an office tower or complex with several rabbit hole rooms for Sims to retreat to? ;)
And well, you can never have too many extra filler lots hanging around anyway.
Visitor controller would be useful in this case, though all the kiddies should be inside the rabbit hole, and thus wouldn't be seen in the building anyway. I suppose any school sessions for storytelling will have to happen on Saturdays or Sundays, so that all the kids will be available.
And next up! I have CAW working!!! *knocks on wood* So expect lots more babble to come! :D
Woo, I can't see what you do with CAW...or what CAW will do with you, lol. I think you'll have fun with it.
ReplyDeleteThe rabbit hole rugs are lifesavers. :)
The McCullough family looks great!
Thanks Cheezy! Yes, lol! CAW is turning me inside out already, but it's also a lot of fun! (Which probably makes me a bit loony, lol!)
ReplyDeleteTS3 Fiona is stunning and she looks like she knows it too! And Phoenix is very handsome.
ReplyDelete"I zoned the building as a library, which made the most sense at the time, but it turns out that just means people will come and try to use it as a library all day."
Crazy how that works, lol! ;)
I'm glad that you've got some ideas for making a custom school work. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
Is there a Sims 3 Visitor controller? How would that work in a seamless neighborhood?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see Sim 3 version of Lakeside Height in full action!
I wanted to say thank you for linking to the longer pregnancy mod in your Sims 3 mods list here! That will definitely come in handy for me, though I don't need the 9 month one, lol. I figured that what I actually need is a 45 day one, which would give me enough time to play through my other households and allow the pregnancy to progress naturally. I may have to see if I can tweak the mod a bit... I still haven't found anything that pauses pregnancies that still works. There was one mod, but it's broken now according to the comments I read on it.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm commenting here because I saw where you said you might make an office building with different rabbit holes and I wanted to let you know that this does work perfectly in my game! I have an office building that houses the business, journalism, and the custom gamer career I've downloaded (which works with the criminal career rug). The careers are on different floors of the building, and then I still have space to add in other things in the future if they make sense to be in the office tower. :)
You should be able to set it up for 45 days, no problem! The mods are really pretty straightforward to edit in s3pe. Just remember you'll be working in hours, so 45 days x 24 hours = 1080 hours or so, and just base your stages off of that.
ReplyDeleteOh good! I'm so glad to hear the office building setup works! That's going to be a lot of fun to play with! :D
I haven't thought to check out the custom careers yet for TS3. Is the gamer one any good?
I like the gamer career. It doesn't have any opportunities set up with it, but that doesn't bother me. (I couldn't get the opportunities working on the counseling psychology career I made so that one doesn't have them either. I'm still playtesting the career to make sure everything's okay before I release it publicly.) I did have a problem after I installed Generations where the career kept giving me errors. I finally found that there were two typos in the XML code so I fixed the file through s3pe. I haven't seen anyone else mention this problem though...so I don't know if it was just me or what. If you do try that career, I could send you the file that I fixed if you get errors from the original one on MTS.
ReplyDeleteI also have the TS3 conversion of the TS2 Law career (also on MTS) for Darcy since she's a lawyer and EA hasn't given us a law career in TS3 yet. I haven't had any problems at all with that one. I'm using some of the careers available through Twallan's career mod too, such as Seth Lloyd working as a repairman. I love those extra self-employed careers!
